The Partnership Resource Center

Who We Are

Our facility at the Eara E. Lovelace Power Center is a walk-in Resource Center that hosts a wide variety of free workshops, classes and events. The Partnership Resource Center is open to everyone in the community and offers a variety of services including unconditional parenting support and education, health fairs, holiday celebrations, family life workshops, play & grow groups, family movie nights, donation give-away events, intervention services, linkage to other community resources and more. The PRC offers a "place to call home" for our families where they are guaranteed to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their life situations or choices. The Resource Center is truly a place to celebrate being a parent and to give "much love" to every baby and child.

What We Do

The goal of our Resource Center is to work in partnership with the community to build strong families, meet the needs of growing babies and establish a "hub" for community driven and led activities and functions.

Our projects include:

The Effective Parenting Initiative - This initiative from First Five Sacramento recognizes that while parenting is exciting and fun, it can also be challenging. To support parents in our community, First Five provides us with funding for free parenting workshops, enhanced services to our Partnership Resource Center, and individualized advocacy services for families.

Our new workshops include:

Make Parenting a Pleasure – the greatest value of Make Parenting a Pleasure is the opportunity for parents to take a break from the stresses of their day-to-day lives and look at how they are managing their lives and their relationships with their families. We discuss basic information, practice, and reinforcement about the concept of taking care of ourselves so that we can better care for our children.

Dare to Be you – The philosophy of Dare to Be You is for parents to develop a strong family support system, a positive self-concept and a sense of personal responsibility and power that enables them to instill these values in their children. Through parent group activities and parent-child activities, this program promotes hope for the future and having a dream or vision as a key to produce a positive outlook on life.

Strengthening Multi-Ethnic Families and Communities -- Strengthening Multi-Ethnic Families and Communities uniquely and creatively empowers parents by providing them with specific information and activities to assist in teaching children to understand and appreciate family/cultural values as they relate to the development of skills needed to be successful as an adult.

Intervention Services - The Partnership offers a safe place for anxious or overwhelmed parents and families to come and speak with someone regarding the challenges they face. These challenges may include housing troubles, financial stressors, or normal parenting anxiety. Parents may also opt to use a “Parent Time-out” to take a moment to regroup while their children are supervised by a trained staff person. The Partnership also collaborates to provide the Parent Support Line at (916) 394-2005. These intervention opportunities are provided by the Effective Parenting Initiative and First Five Sacramento.

Youthapolooza - The goal of the Partnership’s bi-monthly kid’s only event, Youthapolooza, is to give youth (6-15) a safe place to engage in healthy activities such as roller skating, board games, crafts, and other fun events. All Youthapolooza activities are free!

CAKe - CAKe (Cordova Activities for Kids) is the Partnership’s drop-in summer camp. Its mission is to engage youth in activities spanning a wide range of disciplines and interests, to create a safe, all-inclusive environment for social interaction, and to provide positive, caring role models who encourage personal maturity and healthy self-expression. The CAKe staff members are men and women serving through the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program.

Today’s Youth Matter - In collaboration with Today’s Youth Matter, the Partnership offers local youth the opportunity to creek-stomp, mountain board, and canoe in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Through these 6-day camps and year-round follow-up, Today’s Youth Matter hopes to offer positive role models and mentors and unconditional support to at-risk youth. For more information about Today’s Youth Matter, please visit http://www.tymkids.org/index.html.

Gold Rush Creek Camp - The Gold Rush Creek Camp is an experiential learning opportunity, made possible by a donation from the Sungold Mining Company. This backpacking experience gives Rancho Cordova and Folsom youth the opportunity to fish, gold pan, and camp in the lower Sierras. Our first successful inaugural backpacking trip was held June 4-6, 2007, with a second trip scheduled for June 2008.

Skoglund Family Toy Drive – Rancho Cordova City Council Member, Dan Skoglund, jump started the Partnership’s 2006 Emergency Toy Drive. His passion quickly spread to his family who offered to lend their name and support to this year’s effort to provide a magical Christmas morning this year for all of our precious children. With Council Member Skoglund’s support, the Partnership hopes to accept donations from the community and provide toys for upwards of 500 children this winter. Giving Thanks, A Community Thanksgiving Dinner - In its in inaugural year, A Partnership in Thanks, A Community Thanksgiving Dinner, will be a true community collaboration, bringing together Rancho Cordova Grocery Outlet, The Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova, and the Partnership to serve turkey dinners to the over 500 local families involved with Partnership programs. The invitation-only dinner will be held Wednesday, November 21, at The Sacramento Marriott Rancvho Cordova as a way for the Partnership to share the spirit of the holiday with its families. Color Me Healthy: October Health and Volunteer Expo - An autumn tradition, this year’s Partnership Health Fair is scheduled for October 27th and is going to be bigger and better than ever. The health component of the Fair focuses on encouraging individuals to assume responsibility for their own health by offering valuable health information, screening services, and education services to our culturally diverse communities. In addition, the Fair will serve as a “volunteer expo,” showcasing organizations in the Rancho Cordova community who have volunteer needs and offering families a chance to help in the effort to build a healthier community. Highlights of the event will include healthy snacks and give-aways, free games for the whole family, and opportunities for the whole family to get involved with service projects! Why Our Program Works

Our Resource Center is not just community-based; it is integral as part of the community as a whole. Our programs promote the well-being of the whole community, not just participants enrolled in our programs. We also engage in community-building activities that contribute to the social, cultural and economic life of Rancho Cordova and Folsom. By engaging individuals, organizations and companies in our work, we develop relationships that help sustain our mission, build collaborative efforts to support families, and strengthen the community overall. These efforts lead to increased support for the Partnership Resource Center and encourage mutual support and self-help among community members that can decrease our resident's reliance on public and/or governmental support.
